Scotland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Ayrshire lies in the south west pocket of Scotland and there is many attractions here which is why we attract so many tourists every year to Ayrshire.
We have picked some of the best attractions here in Ayrshire and some interesting facts about this par of Scotland.
Here in Ayrshire is Golfer's heaven. With courses dotted all over Ayrshire, there is 13 golf courses in South Ayrshire alone including Championship courses Turnberry and Royal Troon which are used for the British Open.
The Ballochmyle Viaduct was used in the film Mission Impossible, starring Tom Cruise.
The film’s spectacular climax sees his character leaping across the roof of a speeding train.
The Ballochmyle Viaduct is an awesome sight, spanning 181 feet with a staggering central arch 169 feet in height. When built, it was the largest viaduct in the world. Today it remains the largest masonry arch in the world. Not surprisingly, the Ballochmyle Viaduct has a grade A listing.
Sir William Wallace was born in Ellerslie, Ayrshire on 5th August 1270
The spectacular island of Ailsa Craig is located 10 miles off the Ayrshire coast is famous for its gannets and its granite. The latter is in much demand for making curling stones.
Prestwick Airport is the only bit of Britain that Elvis actually set foot on. On March 3 1960 the plane returning him to the USA from his military service in Germany stopped there to refuel. Elvis was greeted by 1000 fans, some of whom got autographs from The King, who spoke about tour plans that included Scotland – but he never made it back.
Our favourite son, Ayrshire is the home to Robert Burns. Alloway hosts the Robert Burns museum, where you will find everything you need to know about the legendary poet.
Ayrshire have there own cattle.... Cows are predominantly Black and White but in Ayrshire they are Red and White or Brown and White
