History

Ayr Hospitals Relay Radio was born 28 November 1953 when we first started broadcasting with Football Commentaries from Somerset Park, the home to Ayr United Football Club, with music being played before the match and again at half-time.In 1981 a three-and-a-half hour Record Programme started on Sundays, until the new Ayr Hospital Opened in 1992. From then on the music-side of the Charity moved to a new studio within the new hospital and that has been our home ever since.

We currently have 50 plus volunteers who produce and present show's seven days a week. Our Live Programmes Run from 10 a.m. till 11 p.m. Weekdays and 9 a.m. till 9 p.m. on Weekends. We have recently extended our broadcasting hours with Non-Stop music 'Thru The Nite' which brings A-H-R in to a new standard, Broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to Ayr, Biggart and Ailsa hospitals.

We are also in favour of our local football teams, Kilmarnock Football Club and Ayr United, where we broadcast all the home fixtures with our Outside Broadcast Team. We also work very closely with Killie to bring you Live Away matches, with our Team broadcasting through Kilmarnock's Official Website and KillieWorld. As well as that we have regular 'Live' events from the Ayr Gaiety Theatre.
